Certification
in correctional nursing makes a difference – to the patients
whose care is provided by certified correctional nurses, to
employers who must staff their facilities with skilled and
experienced correctional nurses, and to the individual nurse who
attains the CCHP-RN© credential.
Eligibility Requirements
- Current CCHP certification
- Current, active RN license
within a U.S. state or territory or the professional,
legally recognized equivalent in another country, not
restricted to corrections only
- Equivalent of 2 years
full-time practice as a registered nurse
- 2,000 hours of practice in a
correctional setting within the last 3 years
- 54 hours of continuing
education in nursing, with 18 specific to correctional
health care, within the last 3 years
All
requirements must be completed prior to application for the
examination.
Examination Fees
The CCHP-RN examination fee is $225
(includes a $100 nonrefundable appraisal fee). If it is determined that
you do not meet the minimum application requirements or if you
decide to cancel your
application, $125 of the examination fee will be refunded.
(Attention veterans: You may be eligible for reimbursement of
the exam fee by the Veterans Administration.

Recertification
To
maintain CCHP-RN certification, annual recertification is
required. You will no longer receive recertification notices for
the basic CCHP program. As long as your CCHP-RN certification is
maintained, there is no additional requirement for CCHP.
